Bessmyslitsa

"бессмыслица" (bessmyslitsa) is a performance that plays with hypervisibility, while exploring counterveillance gimmicks with CZ-Dazzle makeup. Drawing inspiration from stealth styles inspired by the makeup of historically powerful people like Cleopatra, Rudrama Devi and from the women of the people’s war from Telangana region India. Looking backward - Moving forward. An assemblage of Red and Black colours saluting small wars. The physical performance reinterprets the Panopticon.

Bessmyslitsa is a multi-disciplinary performance, using current, made up, real and archival footage and journalistic footage.

Unraveling the intertwined threads of propaganda, sensationalism, and public relations in contemporary discourse. This performance delves into the intricate connections between political narratives, media representations, and public relations practices, exploring how these spheres converge to shape our perception of reality.

The performance examines the pervasive influence of propaganda and sensationalism, tracing their lineage back to pioneering figures like Edward Louis Bernays and David Mackenzie Ogilvy CBE, who revolutionized the art of public manipulation.

Through a critical lens, Bessmyslitsa scrutinizes the subtle yet insidious ways these techniques permeate contemporary journalism and reportage, blurring the lines between objective reporting and persuasive storytelling. It invites audiences to question the very foundations of our media landscape, challenging them to discern fact from fiction and critically engage with the narratives that shape their understanding of the world.
